- Who can apply and participate as a paid participant?
- Current undergraduate and graduate students at Georgia Tech.
- How are students compensated?
- A select number of participants will be paid hourly according to the standard GT summer rates for undergraduate and graduate students.
- Do students need to be registered full-time to participate in the program?
- No. This opportunity does not require students to register for any summer coursework.
- Are international students eligible for the program? Do they need to file for OPT/CPT?
- Yes, they are eligible. Our current understanding from OIE is that these students do not need to file OPT/CPT to participate in this program. However, we strongly suggest that each student check on their own situation if selected for the paid internship.
- If students are graduating with an MS and starting a PhD in fall, can they apply?
- Yes, as long as the student is still considered to be
- Can students outside of GT apply for the VSIP?
- Right now we can’t currently hire students outside of GT for this program. There may be volunteer opportunities for these students, depending on mentor availability.
- Are there any interviews for the program? Are references required?
- No. The written application is the only requirement from potential participants.
- How should students select projects when applying? Should they select based on interest or skill set?
- We would suggest that students select projects that match their skill set (if possible) and then their interest.
- Can students continue work on a specific project after the summer?
- Yes! However, the opportunities may be more volunteer-based as the paid program is only for the summer.
- Will all students be notified regardless of their selection for the program?
- Yes, we will notify all students of their status.
- If not selected for the paid internship, can students work on a volunteer basis? How many hours per week?
- Yes, according to mentor availability. We will likely have a call for volunteers, and we suggest that students be able to commit 10 hours per week to their project of interest.
